Diastasis recti refers to the separation of your outermost stomach muscles. Pregnancy and various other forces can create pressure within your abdominal cavity resulting in the muscles present to thin down or spread apart. Abdominal muscles and their connective tissues support your back and organs. When there is a weakening of this wall, focusing on diastasis recti repair is advisable.
Do you like something creamy and smooth in coffee or tea? I discovered a new healthy alternative to milk. Many people avoid milk, or should, because they are allergic. Once I saw a map at New York’s Museum of Natural History showing the areas in the world where people are not lactose intolerant — a very small section of Africa, where tribes have consumed goat’s milk for generations. Some allergic reactions may include cramps, indigestion, bloating, blemishes, or mucus leading to breathing problems. Goat’s milk lacks the cow dairy protein casein, but all dairy increases “mucus.” I heard from a noted Tibetan monk doctor, Yeshe Donden, that the combination of milk and fish is “deadly.” I never found out if he meant that fish and milk cause too much phlegm or that the combination is forbidden because fish are considered sacred in some parts of traditional Tibet. There is a legendary lake there in which the fish were considered deities. Excess phlegm according to Tibetan, Chinese, and Ayurvedic medicines, underlies congested conditions ranging from asthma to cancer. Ayurveda calls it Kapha; Tibetan medicine bad-kan; and Chinese medicine might describe mucus congestion or excess fat and phlegm as resulting from low digestive qi and “dampness” (she pronounces roughly shuh.) So what’s my solution to the creamy milk problem?
A Normal Tongue Tongues are not exclusively a female preoccupation: Men have them too. But women may be naturally attuned to subtle changes in their body and emotions. Tongues are of special interest to cooks, people who eat to remain healthy and beautiful and, of course, to alternative medicine. You can learn interesting things about a person by looking at their tongue. It indicates a cohesive picture of life choices. A normal tongue is pink, moist, and not too fat or thin. The coating is thin, moist, and white not thick, dry and cheese-like or colored yellow to indicate acidity or brown or black to indicate extreme inflammation. Few people have normal tongues for long. The tongue’s shape and color change as symptoms and diets change for better or worse. Emotions, nervous exhaustion, or overuse of stimulants may show up as a shaky tongue.
High acid foods increase sour stomach, bloating, burps and acid reflux. If you have those digestive discomforts or constipation, drink 1 – 2 tablespoons of health food store aloe vera juice added to warm water after meals. Aloe, a soothing deep-acting cleanser, helps relax muscle tension that makes you feel choked with acid. Use an aloe juice or gel such as Lily of the Desert or other drinkable brands (not the aloe you put on sun burns!) Many people get relief from acid reflux by adding 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar to a glass of water and sipping it with a straw. Some traditional Chinese doctors recommend apple cider vinegar for weight loss because they believe digestive spasms are associated with liver congestion. To avoid acid reflux, (and gout) reduce or avoid the following high acid foods:
A few questions have come in concerning protein-digesting enzymes: what products contain them and how many pills to take. Digestive enzymes are availalbe in American healthfood stores. The most enjoyable ones to eat are concentrated papaya and pineapple enzymes in pill form. For example, Tropical Papaya enzyme supplement made by Country Life, available at Vitamin Shoppe and many other stores. Read the labels to make sure there are no additives or fake flavors.
