Clostridium difficile causes a nasty infection in your gut. About 10 years ago a particularly virulent form of it appeared in hospitals across the U.S and today antibiotic-resistant C. difficile is a superbug that kills nearly 14,000 Americans a year. Scientists have recently identified two different strains of the bacterium that caused the global epidemic of C. difficile between 2002 and 2006. It is transmitted because of poor hygiene (translation = infected diarrhea), typically in hospital settings where patients have been given large doses of antibiotics. My question: Can infected people be carriers (without symptoms) who spread it outside the hospital?
No matter if the genome is identified, what we need to do is clean house!…When a patient leaves a hospital bed to go home or be moved to another hospital room, the room should be cleaned top to bottom with water and hydrogen peroxide or another effective cleanser. If you are a hospital patient clean yourself, spray your bedding with antibacterial colloidal silver spray. Take 1/2 – 1 tsp of the liquid daily and eat yogurt or acidophilus. Wash your hands after using the bathroom – Remember what Mother said. She knew best.
