Stay Cool with Chrysanthemum

chrysanthemum-tea Chrysanthemum Flower Tea

Is the heat getting to you? Do you stare at a computer screen for hours then watch television to relax? Is your vision cloudy from overwork or summer hazy weather? Rubbing your eyes is not the answer. A cold shower gives only temporary relief.

If your eyes are red, tired, and overworked, increase blood- and moisture- circulation to the eyes with a delightfully cooling summer tea made with Chinese chrysanthemum flowers.

Skin Cancer – Tea Tree Oil Discovery

tea tree melaleuca alt.

The Daily Mail, July 5, 2010: A team from the University of Western Australia believe tea tree oil, made from the Melaleuca alternifolia found in New South Wales, may work by activating the body’s immune response to skin cancers. The study leader Dr Sara Greay, said: ‘We are very excited about these results and are hoping to find funding for a small clinical trial of about 50 people with pre-cancerous lesions, with the aim of preventing the development of skin cancers.’ Non-melanoma skin cancer is one of the most common types of cancer in the UK, with around 100,000 new cases diagnosed every year. Tea tree oil was found to shrink non-melanoma skin cancers in mice in just one day and wiped them out within three days. Unlike other clinically approved skin cancer chemotherapies, which have long treatment times of three to 16 weeks and can cause nausea and flu-like symptoms, the tea tree oil formulation only produces mild skin irritation which disappears within days of finishing treatment .

Drug Recalls -兒童的藥物回顧 – Drogas Recuerda

sneeze2Manufacturing defects have led to the recall of 43 child and infant liquid formulations of Tylenol, Motrin, Zyrtec, and Benadryl by McNeil, a division of Johnson & Johnson. No injuries or deaths have been reported, but If children who have taken the recalled products develop unusual symptoms, parents are urged to contact a health care professional. The voluntary recall follows an April 19 FDA inspection of a McNeil plant in Fort Washington, Pa. that uncovered “manufacturing deficiencies,” the Washington Post reports. . . McNeil did not say how many units were being recalled, but the number likely is huge. Recalled products were distributed in the U.S., Canada, Dominican Republic, Dubai (UAE), Fiji, Guam, Guatemala, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Panama, Trinidad & Tobago, and Kuwait.

Grief Lowers Immunity

silky butterfly Last week, I lost my darling Silky to lung cancer. At age fifteen, she enjoyed running up and down the stairs, sunning herself, and stalking birds on the porch this past summer and early fall in Vermont. In New York she naturally became subdued in our small apartment. She had lost little more than one pound over a period of a year, had fairly normal blood tests, then suddenly stopped eating. Cats are able to hide their lung vulnerability, can seem fine until they suddenly start panting and stop eating. Seeming well is their defense against potential threats. People, being complex, may feel emotional pain in the body. We often transform feelings into illness; it may be part of the healing process. Once I met a woman who had broken off with her lover and developed a two week cold. Her pain had shifted from a deep place in order to leave.

Beauty in Difficult Times

yintang

Beauty faces more than the usual challenges these days. Besides dry skin, rashes and wrinkles, we should consider the ill effects of flu season, chronic infections, skin allergies, and menopause. HIV also poses specific threats to immunity, energy and, therefore, appearance. The Golden Rule for beauty in difficult times is: “Don’t make things worse.” We require extra vitality during flu season and cold weather. However, few of us consider the effects of beauty treatments beyond the surface of skin. Beauty products have a profound effect on health: Everything you put on your skin or inject into muscles eventually passes through the blood and liver. Avoid BOTOX! People with low immunity have been known to develop upper respiratory tract infections, and a couple of children have died of lung troubles after receiving injections aimed to relax facial muscles. Right between the eyes, at the squint marks and the 6th chakra, is an acupuncture point, yintang, used for directing energy downward, passing through the lungs.

Montel and Me

montel-williams

It is always a pleasure to speak with Montel Williams on Net Radio. Today we discussed foods and herbs for FLU prevention and treatment. The best foods are those that reduce mucus congestion like radish and fresh fruits, leafy green vegetables, and Tibetan goji berry tea high in antioxidants. They increase white blood cells, our flu-fighters.

NEEM, see the articles at this website, is antibacterial, antiviral and antiparasite. Why not clean up your act as you prevent flu! Most people have intestinal parasites without knowing it if they eat difficult food combinations like dairy and meat, dairy and fish or refined over-processed foods high in sugar. Neem clears your skin, detoxifies the entire body and helps you survive any upper respiratory tract infection. It reduces fever.

I also recommend honey suckle flowers, 1 pinch added to green tea with lemon, ginger and mint or Yin/Yang Sisters FLU AWAY instant beverage, which contains honeysuckle and other anti-fever, anti-flu herbs. Here is article where I discuss a number of convenient pills and teas, including FLU AWAY. Find Montel’s podcast of his Sept. 3rd show for an audio clip from our interview. My segments of the broadcast were from 70 – 75 minutes and 88 – 93.16 seconds into the 225 minute show. Here is a video I made to help you to prevent colds and flu. Teas – Part Two

Part Two is about Non-Teas, herbs that are not Camellia sinensis.

Yerba Mate

A trip to Argentina or the Argentine section of North Miami Beach would not be complete without drinking yerba mate from a gourd called a mate or guampa in Spanish. It is infused in hot not boiling water in order to prevent a bitter flavor. Yerba mate, a species of holly grows evergreen throughout South America. In Brazil toasted mate tea sold in shops is sweetened with fruit juice.

Amla

amla I just ordered a pound of amla powder online. I’ll take 1 tsp. in water daily to help prevent colds and flu. It is a potent source of immune-boosting vitamin C and important tannins. Even if flu were not an issue, amla is a great health and beauty tonic. It prevents/treats thinning hair, wrinkles, and obesity.

This Flower Could Save Your Life

honeysuckle flower

Honeysuckle Flower (Lonicera japanica)

Grow this lovely, fragrant flower in your garden. I remember lying awake, a girl in the New Mexico desert, entranced by the intoxicating sweetness of honeysuckle, dreaming of romance in bloom. It grows in temperate climates in a well-drained soil. Honeysuckle, a perennial, needs full sun, but tolerates light shade. Best planted in the fall as a hedge, spacing the shrubs three feet apart, water them freely during summer and sparingly during winter. Feed the plants monthly during the growing season with a balanced fertilizer, and propagate new plants from softwood cuttings in late spring or from cuttings in late summer. Throughout the year, steep a handful of dried honeysuckle flowers and a slice of raw ginger as a tea to kill strep, staph, salmonella, TB, and pneumonia germs. Honeysuckle is your protection against colds and flu.  Continue reading ‘This Flower Could Save Your Life’

Colds/Flu Prevention and Treatment

I realize that many people cannot recognize Asian herbs either in stores or when I discuss them in radio broadcasts. So I have made two short videos: Parts 1 and 2 (below) showing commonly used herbs to help prevent and treat cold and flu symptoms. They include ginger for chills, weakness and sore throat and bitter green herbs such as sage and oregano, which can boost energy and immunity daily. Reishi mushroom (Ganoderma lucid.) and astragalus are available online and in some Chinese herb shops. Capsules are in health food stores. You can cook reishi and/or astragalus (twice to save money) in your slow cooker and store the liquid in your refrigerator. The second video features pills and Yin/Yang Sister instant beverages Breathe Free and Flu Away. Continue reading ‘Colds/Flu Prevention and Treatment’
