This Year’s Flu Shot Fizzles

California health officials have announced the state’s first flu-related pediatric death this season — a child from Orange County. Forty-four children in the state have been treated in hospital intensive care units for the flu. Nationwide, 10 children have died this season. Four of those children also had staph infections. Health officials have said, “Children with certain underlying conditions — immune deficiencies, heart disease, lung disease, kidney disease and other things … are more likely to get severely ill.” Continue reading ‘This Year’s Flu Shot Fizzles’

Car Travel with Cats and A Cold in the Tropics

You haven’t heard from me in a little while. We drove south with Silky (our cat). She hates to be in a car so I placed her and her cat box into a large cardboard box, cut with breathing holes so that she could not watch the passing cars and get car sick. I did not feed her the evening before our driving days. We would drive a day, take off another so that her feeding and elimination could catch up. All went quite smoothly because I used a homeopathic remedy from the pet store called travel anxiety. I recognized a couple of the ingredients. One was for motion sickness another for stress.
